MatrikonOPC releases OPC Tunneller with support for Alarms and Events

| Press
Release from: MatrikonOPC, on June 23, 2011 |
|
OPC Tunneller now supports all OPC Communications EDMONTON, AB June. 21, 2011 - MatrikonOPC has released the newest version of OPC Tunneller now with support for OPC Alarms and Events. With OPC Tunneller, users can now easily transfer data from remote OPC Servers into a centralized A&E Historian without DCOM communication issues. This allows users to establish and maintain secure, reliable communications between systems spanning large geographical distances and systems on complex networks. OPC Tunnellers lossless data compression uses less than 10 percent of the bandwidth normally needed by regular OPC traffic based on DCOM. Such low data overhead is optimal for use in limited data bandwidth applications that involve the use of satellites, modems, radios, and other bandwidth-limited communications. In addition, OPC Tunneller keeps OPC data confidential by encrypting it. This approach provides users with an additional layer in the defense-in-depth cyber security model. "The ability to access your data whenever and wherever you need is crucial in todays automation solutions, especially when it comes to alarm data. Plant operators and engineers need ready access to such data to prevent down time, costly maintenance, or outright disasters. OPC Tunneller provides users the most stable and secure connectivity possible to their real-time, historical, and alarm and event OPC data sources, said Darek Kominek Marketing Manager at MatrikonOPC products. |
RELEASE: Evergreen, CO, June 3, 2011 — Today, Open Automation Software announced the results of a customer poll that showed OPCSystems.NET users chose KEPServerEX for a complete OPC solution over the other OPC servers on the market. Over 50% of Open Automation Software's customers chose to "Get Connected" with Kepware, and reported a high level of satisfaction when using the product with OPCSystems.NET. OPCSystems.Net's user-friendly interface and customizable HMI screens are maximized with KEPServerEX's security and reliability during easy integration. Due to KEPServerEX's built-in diagnostic and troubleshooting tools, customers reported an extremely low number of calls for assistance in communications setup that involved Kepware's Technical Support staff. When such assistance was required, however, customers also reported a high degree of satisfaction in the support team's quick and efficient solutions.
"Both Kepware and Open Automation Software are long time members of the OPC Foundation, and are committed to providing dynamic products that often exceed the OPC Specifications for performance. Combining the OPCSystems.NET OPC Client with the OPC Server from Kepware makes an extremely solid and scalable OPC solution," said Thomas Burke, President and Executive Director of the OPC Foundation.
"We chose to partner with Kepware early on, because we have found that the performance of Kepware's product continually yields an overall faster data throughput with greater reliability than the other OPC Servers we previously worked with. Our OPCSystems.NET product runs as a Windows Service, and because KEPServerEX also runs as a Windows Service, it makes the initial connection extremely easy. It also makes it possible for both applications to run on a Windows Server operating systems without a user logged in," commented Ken Eldridge, President of Open Automation Software.
"We have seen Open Automation Software products used in a wide variety of industries and applications," said Tony Paine, President of Kepware Technologies. "It is great to see that through open standards, such as OPC, customers realize that they can build secure, reliable and scalable solutions with components from different vendors."

Release from: MatrikonOPC, on May 17, 2011 |
|
EDMONTON, AB May. 17, 2011 - MatrikonOPC announced today the release of the most powerful version of its OPC redundancy software -- OPC Redundancy Broker. The latest version adds features sought after by users, including support for 64-bit editions of the Windows operating system and expanded redundancy protection to include historical data transfers based on the OPC Foundations Historical Data Access (HDA) specification. Being open standards-based means users can protect all of their OPC Servers, real-time or historical - regardless of the OPC Server vendor.
OPC Redundancy Broker is designed for OPC applications that require the use of redundant hardware or software to achieve the highest degree of communication reliability. ORB can even be retrofitted to current systems because it functions with any OPC server DA, HDA, or A&E, regardless of vendor.
From simple communication-failure based failovers to powerful condition based failovers - OPC Redundancy Broker has the functionality needed in virtually any redundancy application. Easy to use, OPC Redundancy Broker guides users with intuitive step-by-step configuration choices that help them best protect their systems in minutes. OPC Redundancy Broker offers three types of redundant pairs: Hot, Warm, or Cold between the primary and secondary OPC Servers. It handles all configuration and fail-over issues automatically. It also provides additional monitoring capability in the form of watchdog tags that trigger a fail-over between the Primary and Secondary OPC Servers. These watchdog tags can be configured based on the OPC items Value, Value change, Quality, or Timestamp. The combination of these features minimizes the fault-tolerance of the system and promotes maximum system redundancy.
"Customers turn to us because control system downtime is not an option. MatrikonOPC products are reliable and easy to use helping users to quickly and correctly deploy the software knowing their systems are properly protected. With the newly added features in OPC Redundancy Broker - everyone using OPC can now protect their systems to maximize up-time and profitability." said Sean Leonard, Matrikons vice president of OPC products.

We are proud to announce that we have successfully accomplished the technical/economic feasibility study on Smart Heating Network (SHN) for Warsaw central heating system.
Read full story to get more how OPC UA enables us to get an open, interoperable and scalable architecture, thus making the development of the infrastructure and its use for other tasks in the future possible. As the proposed architecture is based on the open connectivity standards it provides a framework for the integration of highly distributed islands of automation with top level applications employing the artificial intelligence idea for optimal control of the heat transmission process. It seems that most results from this project can be a foundation for designing other smart distribution networks, like utilities, oil and natural gas, smart grids, etc.
In the feasibility study of the Smart Heating Network (SHN) for Warsaw central heating system we propose high-tech solutions covering technology, communication, IT and process control with the aim of significantly improving heat transmition efficiency, reducing losses (power dissipation, water leakage, etc.) and finally ensuring the high possible quality and reliability of heat supply to customers in accordance with their expectations.
Provided documentation contains hundreds of pages with analyses, diagrams, tables and descriptions intended to propose a consistent vision of the enterprise development and seamless integration of the SHN with the enterprise management IT systems.
Aspects of the district heating networks development are presented in the published documents: white paper and case study. They are prepared basing on the experience and exchange of opinions at the stage of preparation of the feasibility study of the Smart Heating Network (SHN) for Warsaw central heating system. The case study concerns the proposal of innovative solutions in technology, communications, computing and automation, which can significantly affect an improvement in heating systems operation.

A key component to the Wind SCADA Pack is a robust high speed historian for data logging. Operators rely on real-time HMI/SCADA and condition monitoring to keep equipment at optimal efficiency. Turbine information including wind speed, wind direction, power, blade position, temperatures and vibrations are instantly data logged, visualized and analyzed.
With organizations looking for ways to manage their renewable energy assets and manage sustainability operations, being able to collect and visualize the real-time information is important, stated Joost Verhofstad, ICONICS Business Development Manager for Renewable Energy. Many companies do not know where to start or what tools to use. That is why we are introducing Wind SCADA.
ICONICS HMI/SCADA solutions are not just for wind, but can be utilized in all areas of renewable energy such as:
- Wind Farms
- Turbine Warranty Management
- Solar Power Plants
- Hydro Electric
- Tidal Systems
- Bio Gas
- Fuel Cell Operation
- Landfill Gasification
